Diamond micro-milling
Micro-milling is the most recent addition to Kaleido's strong portfolio of manufacturing capabilities. Micro-milling is the ideal solution for large scale manufacturing of array masters for replication technologies such as injection molding and hot embossing.
Kaleido Technology uses its ultra-precision machining systems fitted with a high-performance, high-speed spindle from PI Systems to offer very efficient manufacturing of large micro-lens arrays and other complex geometries.
Micro-milling offers a number of unique features and advantages compared to other replication master technologies:
- Manufacturing of lenses with high numerical apertures: Numerical apertures all the way to hemispheres can be realized by micro-milling in contrast to technologies like the fast-tool servo process, where the diamond tool clearance sets the limitation of typically 20 degrees of slope angle.
- Manufacturing of very large masters: The micro-milling process can take advantage of the entire axis swing of the ultra-precision machining system, allowing for manufacturing of wafers exceeding 300 mm in diameter.
